Where Crystal Meth Anonymous Groups Gather
Clubhouses, Churches, and Assorted Basements
CMA meetings can be held anywhere that will have you. Generally groups look for a location that is easily accessible, has sufficient parking to not upset neighbors, and won’t take all of the group’s 7th tradition donations just to pay rent.
Most major cities have clubhouses that satisfy all of these requirements and more. These clubhouses are owned and operated by people in recovery who have pooled their resources to buy or rent a space and make it available specifically as a gathering place for other people in recovery. Some are as simple as a room with chairs, a restroom, and a place to make coffee. Others have multiple meeting rooms, a restaurant or coffee shop, rec rooms, libraries, gardens, and more.
If you’re starting a meeting, you can call, email, or DM a clubhouse and ask to see their available schedule. If you’re just looking to attend a meeting, the schedule should be on their website or Facebook page.
If there isn’t a clubhouse in your area, or they don’t have a time in their schedule that works, you have other options. Churches are very common as a meeting location because they charge very little in rent and usually have the chairs, heating/air, storage, and coffee making facilities most groups need. To start a meeting here you would contact the church’s office. LDS churches do sometimes host meetings, but getting in contact with them to do so can be a larger hurdle than smaller organizations.
When first starting out, you can opt to host a meeting in someone’s home. The CMA General Services website, crystalmeth.org, has a policy of not listing home addresses for safety reasons, and the Utah Area follows that same policy. Groups that begin like this grow the old-fashioned way: by word of mouth. Announce the group in other meetings and give the address to people you feel comfortable with.
